When
you’re hot, you’re hot! Right now, no one is hotter in the
Railsplitters lineup than Colbie Glenn.
And if you’re Colbie Glenn’s bat, you are sizzling hot.
The senior, who just signed with the Lincoln Land Community College
Loggers on LCHS signing day this week, has now homered in four
straight games and he has driven in 13 runs during the Railsplitters
four-game winning streak. All this while batting in the lead-off
position. Glenn has more home runs and RBIs in this stretch than the
reigning MLB National League MVP, Ronald Acuña Jr., has all season
so far. Acuña also bats leadoff for the Atlanta Braves.
On Thursday afternoon the Railsplitters hosted Metamora and sent
those Redbirds back home with their feathers ruffled and a 12-3
loss.
Metamora’s pitching was a little shaky to start the game, allowing
Lincoln to load the bases on two walks and a hit batter. Two
strikeouts later it was up to Trey Schilling to do something.
Schilling delivered a two-run single to center, scoring Michael
Lucas and Jarrett Evers. Colbie Glenn scored ahead of that pack on a
wild pitch. Another out in the inning and Lincoln was ready to take
the field for the second inning with a 3-0 lead.
In the bottom of the third inning, the Railsplitters stretched the
lead to 4-0 on a sacrifice fly by Schilling.
In the top of the fourth inning, the Redbirds put together a string
of singles and walks and plated three runs to make the game
interesting.
Carson Fuiten added a two-run single in the bottom of the fifth
inning for Lincoln to make the score 6-3.
With one out in the bottom of the sixth inning, Lincoln loaded the
bases on two walks and a hit batter. As fate would have it, another
hit batter scored a run. After a pop out, Lincoln experienced
another hit batter, this time Wes Tedrick trotted to first base as
another Railsplitter crossed home plate. With the bases full yet
again, Colbie Glenn took his stride to the batter’s box and there is
no way he wasn’t thinking about a grand slam.

That thought has to cross every batter’s mind with
the bases juiced. Glenn, who proudly wears no. 5 for George Brett,
took a 2-2 count and sent it sailing over the left field fence for a
grand slam. Schilling, Graue and Tedrick scored ahead of Glenn and
with that one big swing the score escalated to 12-3.
Carson Fuiten worked really quick in the seventh
inning to send the Redbirds home to Metamora. By the looks of the
pitch count, Fuiten only tossed six pitches in the seventh inning to
end the game with a victory for Lincoln.
Aside from Colbie Glenn’s big blast, Trey Schilling was having a
marvelous day at the plate. Schilling has signed on to further his
academic and athletic career at Illinois Wesleyan University in
Bloomington and versus the Redbirds he was 2-for-2 with three RBIs
and two runs scored.
Drew Hayes had a solid day by going 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
Carson Fuiten also picked up a hit and two RBIs.
Wyatt Mammen started the game for Lincoln. He worked three and
two-thirds innings, allowing three hits and three runs. He walked
four and struck out six.
Carson Fuiten earned the win for Lincoln. He worked three and
one-third innings, allowing two hits. He struck out two batters.
Lincoln is now 12-7 on the season.
The Railsplitters next game is scheduled for Tuesday at home versus
Decatur Eisenhower at 4:30 p.m.
