Food and Nutrition judging moves to Monday afternoon at the Logan County Fairground

[July 31, 2024]  On Monday afternoon 4-H judging continued with the "Food, Nutrition & Health" judging. This year, for the first time, the judging was done at the Logan County Fairground in the exhibit barns across the midway from the grandstand.

Over a dozen participants brought their wares with notebooks and explanations of how they put together their projects. Everything from sugar and peanut butter cookies to scones and cakes were included in the entries. Other health-related projects ranged from understanding of the food groups to sports.

Every participant gets a blue, red or white ribbon. The blue ribbon means they met all the criteria for their category, red means they need a little more work to complete their task and white means the project didn't meet any of the criteria.

Every entry got a blue ribbon! When you put in the work you are proud to show it off. There were plenty of smiles from 4-Hers to judges.

Food is a well-loved topic in Logan County. With so many generations of good cooks it would be safe to assume that these youngsters benefit not only from what they learn in 4-H but also from what they have witnessed by example from parents, grand parents and other family members. One can easily see that for some of the youth at least the love of food and the practices of good health and nutrition have been passed down through the generations.
