[August 15, 2024]    An unseasonably cool August Friday afternoon did not dampen the fun of the Lincoln Park District (LPD) Aquatic Center’s final Family Fun Day of the summer.

A fiesta theme with decorations, music, photo opportunities, and games like jumping beans, find the sombrero, and piñata grab kept kids entertained.

Pool Manager Elizabeth Parrott said, “The lifeguards are having fun playing with the kids. We are glad to have the community come out and we are glad to see smiling faces. Guards enjoy these days because they have more time with the children. Families enjoy it. They enjoy watching their kids interact with the guards. The guards are good people to look up to based on feedback from the community.”

Third-year lifeguard Mattea McFadden came up with the games for the Fiesta Family Fun Day. She keeps coming back to guard at the LPD Aquatic Center because she enjoys “seeing the community, and the community of guards is super tight and close. It’s fun to bond over the summer and be a positive influence on the community.”

McFadden adds, “PSA for next year! We will have three new themes for fun days for next year chosen by the lifeguards! Watch for the announcement!”

Admission for Fiesta Family Fun Day was a nonperishable item for the Lincoln-Logan Food Pantry giving families a lower cost admission, as well as the opportunity to support others in the community. Regular pool admission and pool passes are also accepted on Family Fun Days.

New Aquatic Center hours began August 12, 2024. Adult Lap Swim continues from 10:30 a.m.-12 noon daily and the Toddler pool will be open at these times on Saturday and Sunday only. Public swimming will be on Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 5:45 p.m with Family Night swims on Tuesday evenings from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The last day the LPD pool will be open this summer is Labor Day, September 2.
