Obituary
Fern M. Turley, 97, passed away on
Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at Mason City Area
Nursing Home.
Graveside Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on
Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at Lucas Chapel Cemetery
in rural New Holland. Mr. Ryan Edgecombe will
officiate.
Fern Melvene Turley was born October 19, 1926, in
Lincoln, the daughter of Oria Julius and Flo
Margurette Aery Smith. She was united in marriage to
James Virgil Ellison in 1945 in Lincoln. She later
married Charles E. Turley in 1974 in New Holland. He
preceded Fern in death in 2018.
Fern is survived by her daughter, Rebecca E. Ellison
of Kimberling City, MO; sister, Joyce J. Pinney of
Lincoln; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two husbands, daughter
Janice K. Ellison, three brothers, Oria J. Smith,
Jr., Donald D. Smith, and Jack A. Smith; three
sisters, Margurette Smith, Mary Ellen Bennett, and
Decemma Mae Armstrong; and several in-laws, nieces
and nephews. She loved her family and everyone else
her whole life. |
Fern worked for Ellison Automotive,
the KEG Lounge and Restaurant, Lincoln China
Factory, operated Beason Café, The KEG Lounge and
Restaurant, and several retail sales operations in
Branson, Missouri. She enjoyed bowling, knitting,
and sewing when time allowed. She became a resident
of The Christian Village in early December 2018,
enjoying their spiritual care program by Pastor Ryan
Edgecombe throughout her journey with dementia.
Recently, she moved to Mason City Area Nursing Home.
Dr. Dennis Caroll and his medical care improved her
day-to-day functioning tremendously.
Memorial donations may be made to a place of the
donor’s choice.
Peasley Funeral Home of Lincoln is in charge of
arrangements.
