The Lincoln Lady Railers
were in Decatur Tuesday night to take on the MacArthur Lady
Generals. The Lady Railers started the game hot but in the end when
it really mattered, it was the Lady Generals catching fire and
winning by a final score of 58-51.
First quarter
Mia Clark and Lily Holmes lit up the
Lincoln offense early with a 4-0 lead. After Makinley Knapp added a
layup and the ‘and one’ the lead was 7-2. Holmes poured in the next
three baskets for Lincoln, tallying seven points in a short stretch and
this put the Lady Railers up 14-2. The Lady Generals scored two 3s to
chip away at the lead, 14-8 the score. Clark answered with a quick three
of her own and the 17-8 score was the result of these girls hustling up
and down the court and not being afraid to take a shot. Again the Lady
Generals were confident in shooting the three and as the quarter was
winding down they sank one more to make the score 18-16. Clark would
complete the first quarter scoring with a free throw and Lincoln was up
19-16.
Second quarter
The Lady Generals wasted no time
capturing the lead in the second quarter on two 3s in less than a
minute. MacArthur then extended the lead to 24-19 after a steal and a
layup. The ladies then exchanged 3s with Casey Jackson sinking two for
MacArthur and Clark and McCloud each sinking one for Lincoln. Clark
added a bucket that would make the score 30-28 as the Lady Generals were
still on top. Each team was successful in making a free throw before the
halftime buzzer and this allowed MacArthur the 31-29 lead.
Third Quarter
Grace Schneider and Makinley Knapp each
scored immediately in the third quarter to put Lincoln back in front
33-31. Lincoln kept the lead going, 37-32 the score after Knapp’s bucket
and a few Lady Railer free throws. Then the tide turned. The Lady
Generals used a 9-0 run to jump in front 41-37. Knapp kept the game
close with her baskets, pulling the team to within a point. By the end
of the quarter the Lady Generals were clinging to a 43-42 lead.

Fourth quarter
The fourth quarter belonged to
MacArthur. A 9-0 run to start really ignited the Lady Generals and
then Lincoln’s flame flickered when Holmes fouled out at the 5:23
mark. The Lady Generals were up 52-42 around the 5:00 mark. Clark
would finally score for Lincoln in the fourth quarter just under
that 5:00 mark. Baskets by McCloud and Clark gave Lincoln a spark
but it went out pretty quick when Clark fouled out. Clark left the
game at the 1:00 mark with 19 points and the Lady Railers on the
losing end of a 57-48 game. McCloud’s three from the corner would be
the game’s final points as Lincoln suffered their third loss to open
the season. The final score was 58-51.
Mia Clark was Lincoln’s leading
scorer with 19 points.
Makinley Knapp had 12 points for
