Obituary
Welby Walter Folkes, 91, of
Elkhart, Illinois, passed away November 29, 2024 at
his home.
Cremation rites have been accorded by Holland Barry
& Bennett Funeral Home. Graveside services will be
held at 10 AM on December 10, 2024 at New union
Cemetery.
Welby was born October 1, 1933, in Elkhart, IL., the
son of Ira T. Folkes and Blanche (Mitchell). He
married Shirley Oetzel on February 21, 1960. She
preceded him in death on June 13, 2020. He was a
lifelong farmer. Welby was a loving husband, dad,
grandpa, and brother and was loved by everyone. He
proudly served his country in the United States
Army, serving in France, California, and Georgia. He
was a private person, having lived through the
depression.
Survivors include his son Daniel (Ana) Folkes,
granddaughter Ashley Folkes, grandsons Alexander
Welby Folkes and Charles Daniel Folkes; great
grandchild Beckett Folkes; and brother Dean Folkes.
Many nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife
Shirley, brother Tom Folkes, and sisters Eleanor and
Mary.
Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s
Association or to Elkhart Christian Church.
