Springfield, IL – The Illinois Department of
Veterans Affairs will present the 2024 Gold Star Christmas tree
dedicated to Illinois heroes who lost their lives in combat. The
tree will be lit following a program featuring IDVA Director Terry
Prince and Major General Rodney Boyd, Adjutant General of the
Illinois Nation Guard. The tree will be decorated by Gold Star
Families with personalized ornaments commemorating each Illinois
hero who lost their life in combat. The tree is a space to reflect
on and remember their sacrifice and commitment to our nation’s
freedoms. The tree will officially be lit on December 9th and will
be on display at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum and Library
for visitors to view.
