Dorothy Mae (Ellsworth) Hasenmyer passed away on November 18, 2024, in Auburn, WA.

Born July 30, 1930, in Mott, North Dakota, to Irvin Winston and Zatha Belle (Anderson) Ellsworth. She married G. Dean Hasenmyer June 16, 1957, in Springfield, IL, at First Christian Church.

She graduated from Southwest Missouri State University in 1954. She dedicated her career to teaching for 38 years in elementary schools. She received a certificate from Reading Recovery - a program that allowed her to help students rapidly improve literacy and achieve confidence that provides them with necessary skills to lead a successful life. After almost four decades, Dorothy retired and continued to enrich the lives of children as a reading skills tutor in local schools and in her community. Her impact on her community was significant and will be remembered by the students and families she worked with for years to come.

She is survived by one child, Carl Dean Hasenmyer; five grandchildren, Kevin (Pamela), Melissa, Erin (Jonathan), Katie, and Lucas; and five great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Fern (Dean) Williams and Verna (Larry) Hughes; and one brother, Dan (Ginger) Ellsworth.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Dean; her daughter, Linda (Kevin); and four sisters, Beverly (Connie) Hays (Camarillo, CA), Irene Nicholas (Peoria, IL), Irma Jean Ellsworth (Fessenden, ND) and Mary Lou Ellsworth (Hutchinson, KS).

A visitation for Dorothy will be held on Friday, December 13, 2024, from 2-4PM followed by a memorial service at 4PM at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home, located at 127 S Logan Street, Lincoln, IL. A celebration of life will be held in her honor on December 14 from 12:30-3:30PM at Engrained Brewing Company, located at 1120 Lincolnshire Blvd, Springfield, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Christian Education at Parkway Christian Church in Springfield, IL, or the Literacy Volunteers of Illinois in Chicago, IL.
