Obituary
Lance Edward Vaughan, 69, of Mt.
Pulaski, Illinois passed away January 17, 2024,
surrounded by his family in the same farmhouse that
he lived in his entire life.
Lance was born on December 27, 1954, in Decatur, the
son of Glenn and Mildred (Riedle) Vaughan. He
married Donna (Kutz) Vaughan on April 15, 1978. She
survives.
Lance is survived by his children, Heather (Tommy)
Murphy of Mt. Pulaski, Lisa (Corey) Leonard of Mt.
Pulaski, and Christopher (Meleah) Vaughan of
Carlinville, IL; as well as his grandchildren,
Dustin, Lane, and Alyson Murphy, Clay, Eva, and
Jameson Leonard, Hadley, Everly, Drake, and Kade
Vaughan. He is also survived by his brother, Steve
(Clara) Vaughan, sisters, Glenna Wilham and Susan
(Roger) Oxby. Also surviving are his sisters and
brothers-in-law, Doug (Suzie) Kutz, Greg Kutz, Debra
(John) Swaringen, Jeff (Carol) Kutz, Bruce (Joanne)
Kutz, Dawn (David) Crawford, and Linda Vaughan, as
well as many nieces and nephews. Lance was preceded
in death by his parents, brother, Lynn (L.C.)
Vaughan and brother-in-law, Donald Wilham.
Lance was a life-long member of Zion Lutheran
Church, Mt. Pulaski. He graduated from Mt. Pulaski
High School in 1973 and farmed on the family farm
while also working at Caterpillar, Inc. where he
retired from in 2006.
Lance took pride in his children and grandchildren
and could often be seen supporting them from the
stands at their many sporting events. He enjoyed
taking them on drives and road trips and was a great
tour guide. He also loved reading to them and
telling them all kinds of stories that he created
himself. |
One of his favorite pastimes was
tracking the weather and watching thunderstorms roll
in during the summer, which led to him getting
struck by lightning not once, but twice. Lance’s
other favorite hobby was being an amateur arborist.
He could identify just about any tree in central IL
and submitted many trees in the area to historical
registries. Lance will be remembered most for his
humor and ability to share his friendly quick
wittedness with just about everyone he came across.
A Memorial Service for Lance will be at 6:30 p.m. on
Wednesday, January 24th at Zion Lutheran Church in
Mt. Pulaski. Visitation will take place prior to the
service from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. also at the church.
A private burial will be held at Mt. Pulaski
Cemetery at a different time.
Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Mt. Pulaski
has been entrusted with arrangements.
A special thank you to HSHS Hospice and all those
who cared for Lance the last few months.
Memorials can be made in his memory to Zion Lutheran
School of Mt. Pulaski or HSHS Hospice.
