On
Saturday morning, it appeared that many Logan County residents chose
not to sleep in, in exchange for getting out to the Zion Lutheran
School in Lincoln Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser to benefit the school
and its many programs. The parking lot at the school filled early
and remained full through mid-morning. So busy was the breakfast
that the school made arrangements for overflow parking on the far
north edged of the Farm and Home Supply parking lot. A shuttle bus
was offered for those who took advantage of the overflow parking,
and those patrons were delivered to the front door of the school,
then when they were done with breakfast were chauffeured back to the
off-premises parking lot.
Inside, the school gymnasium was set up with tables and chairs for
guests who chose to dine in, and tables were filled with happy
folks, enjoying a meal of pancakes and sausage while visiting with
family and friends sitting nearby.
The annual breakfast also included the traditional silent auction
with close to 200 items being offered, all donated by local
businesses and individuals. There was also a few very special tables
with baskets that had been donated by the families of specific
classrooms at the school.

A bake sale was also very popular
with items flying out the door as diners left the gymnasium.
In addition to the sausage on the plate, patrons had
the opportunity to support the school by pre-ordering packaged meats
to take home for the freezer.
It was reported that this year, the fundraiser required 13 hogs in
order to assure that there was plenty of prepared meat for breakfast
and plenty of meat to fill all the orders for packaged meat.
The Zion Lutheran breakfast also seems to be the day when Logan
County comes out of hibernation. From Christmas, through the month
of January, there is not a great deal going on out in the community.
So, when breakfast day comes around, it seems that everyone is ready
to wipe off their cabin dust and break the cabin fever with a
morning at Zion School.
