Chester-East Lincoln 8th graders to play for third place at State

The Chester-East Lincoln 8th grade boys basketball team defeated Pontiac St. Mary’s 42-30 on Saturday morning at the 2024 IESA State Basketball Tournament, guaranteeing the team to bring home a state trophy.

Ayden Ferguson led the Panthers with 16 points in the game versus Pontiac St. Mary’s.

On Saturday evening CEL lost to Mendota Holy Cross 39-29.

Both Ayden Ferguson and Kane Komnick led the Panthers with 12 points apiece versus Mendota Holy Cross.

CEL (17-8) will play Peoria St. Jude (20-9) at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday night in the third place game at the 8th Grade Class 1A State Tournament at Warrensburg-Latham High School.
