HSLC hosts an amazing Galentine's Day event
 

[February 14, 2024]    Saturday, February 10, a “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” Galentine’s Day event was held at the Lincoln Women’s Club Building with all proceeds benefiting the Humane Society of Logan County.

Those entering the building could see a large poster depicting many cats and dogs available for adoption at the HSLC.

As the day’s events began, Julie King welcomed over 90 ladies to what she called an incredible celebration of friends and family. King said the people in the room represented many years of friendship.

A buffet style brunch of breakfast casseroles, fruits and other delicacies was served to the ladies. The casseroles were provided by Nuthatch Hill and side dishes by several other volunteers.

While everyone finished their brunch, Tim Searby, Julie King, Brenda Popham and Jackie Maddox provided musical entertainment.

King sang a Puccini aria with many funny moments such as Searby pounding on the keyboard and King hitting extremely high notes. In the middle of the song, Searby’s phone rang, and he ordered a Jimmy John’s sandwich and drink. Before the song was finished, Barry King interrupted it to make the delivery.

Popham and Maddox then sang the song “For Good” from the musical “Wicked.”

On one side table was gift wrapped books anyone could choose to enjoy a “blind date with a book.” A brief description of each book was all they could see before unwrapping it.

At other side tables, pretty take-home boxes were at each place setting and the ladies were able to get delicious looking treats to fill the boxes.

Area businesses donated a variety of items for the raffle baskets and tickets were six for ten dollars. With many tickets purchased, these baskets proved to be a big draw.

Towards the end of the event, there was a trivia game with twenty questions about topics like famous friendships, couples, characters and singers plus television shows or love songs.

The day’s events ended with the drawing for door prizes and the raffle baskets.

Once everything was done, volunteers and groups of friends posed by a tree decorated with hearts.

The event was made possible by the several area businesses who sponsored it along with many volunteers who set it up.

It was a great day for the ladies to celebrate friendship with food and fun.
