[February 19, 2024]  LINCOLN - Marvin Theodore Oltmanns, 89, of Lincoln, passed away on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Visitation:  Wednesday, February 21, 2024, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln

Service:  10 a.m. on Thursday, February 22, 2024, at the funeral home

Obituary

Marvin Theodore Oltmanns, 89, of Lincoln, passed away on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Marvin was born April 19, 1934, in rural Logan County, the son of Theodore Carl and Gladys Emma (Brinner) Oltmanns.

Marvin graduated from Hartsburg-Emden High School in 1952 and later enlisted in the US Navy. He served aboard the USS Basilone. He was honored to attend the Land of Lincoln Honor Flight in 2013.

He married Joyce Babbs, and they enjoyed 68 years of marriage. Marvin was a great father to Diane Otte, Donna Oltmanns, and David Oltmanns (Laura). He was a loving grandfather to nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Additionally, he is survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Eldon Oltmanns.

Marvin retired from farming, and yet had many jobs. He worked at Stetson's, Caterpillar in Decatur, served as a bailiff at Logan County Courthouse, a school crossing guard, truck driver, and for many years with Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home. He was a member of the Logan County Sheriff’s Auxiliary and the American Legion in Hartsburg.

He loved his family, enjoyed building their family home, birthday parties, NASCAR Racing, and Twinkies. He enjoyed playing Pinochle, Railer Basketball, Cubs games, and going to the Logan County Fair & Illinois State Fair. Marvin was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Lincoln.

Services for Marvin will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, February 22, 2024, at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln. Visitation will take place Wednesday, February 21, 2024, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service at Zion Cemetery where full military rites will be accorded.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Marvin’s name to the First United Methodist Church in Lincoln, the Lincoln American Legion Post #263, or the Marine Corps League Detachment 1336.
