Young Women in Public Affairs Scholarship Applications Available

The goal of the Young Women in Public Affairs (YWPA) Award Program is to encourage young women to participate in public affairs by recognizing a young woman’s commitment to the volunteer sector, evidence of volunteer leadership achievements, and dedication to building a better world for women in girls.

Applicants are asked to reflect on their voluntary commitment to their school and to their community, and the problems limiting the empowerment of women in their own country and worldwide. The Zonta International Young Women in Public Affairs Award Program looks to the young women of today to be the leaders of tomorrow.

Applications are due to: Jeanie Beccue by March 2, 2024. Applicants aged 16-19 on 1st April each year, studying at a secondary school, college, or university in a Zonta district/region, or who are studying elsewhere but are citizens of a Zonta country at the time of application, are eligible to apply. The application process must start with a Zonta club.

The Zonta Club of Lincoln began providing scholarships in 1981. The club offered its first Zonta Young Women in Public Affairs scholarship in 2011. In 2020, an additional scholarship was added: the Melanie Schaler Nursing Scholarship due to the generous donations of the Schaler family. The Zonta Club of Lincoln previously generated funds for scholarships through the annual Zonta Turkey Dinner, which sadly, ceased in 2020.

Currently, the club is asking the citizens of Logan County to again provide donations to fund our scholarships through the following:

Culver’s Fundraiser Night on February 15, 2024

International Women’s Day/Spring Tea on March 2, 2024

Lincoln IGA Sandwich and Bake Sale on April 20, 2024
