Obituary
Fern Lillian Maus, 97, of Mt.
Pulaski, formerly of Chestnut passed away on Monday,
February 26, 2024, at Vonderlieth Living Center in
Mt. Pulaski.
Fern was born on May 5, 1926, in Lincoln, the
daughter of Charles W. & Flossie M. (Baker) Moore.
She married Wilbur Maus on July 24, 1945, in
Chestnut. He preceded her in death on November 6,
1993.
Fern is survived by her sons, Walter John (Debra)
Maus, Gregory Charles (Pamela Erlenbush) Maus,
Curtis Allen Maus, and Jody Lee Maus; her eight
grandchildren; and several great and great-great
grandchildren.
Fern was preceded in death by her parents; her
husband; her twin sister, Flossie Peck; her sisters,
Adelma Kraft and Virginia Britsch; and her infant
brother, Charles.
During her lifetime, Fern was a devout member of
Zion Lutheran Church in Lincoln, Chestnut, and Mt.
Pulaski. She was a homemaker, a gardener, and was
well known for her canning of vegetables. She also
worked at the Illiopolis Ammunition Plant making
ordnance during WWII. |
Fern and her husband, Wilbur
relocated the original Popcorn School House from
outside Chestnut, remodeled it, and raised their
four boys there. For Fern, her boys and her family
were her entire world.
Services for Fern will be held at 10
a.m. on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at Zion Lutheran
Church in Mt. Pulaski with Rev. Jonathan Buescher
officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday,
March 1, 2024, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. also at the
church. Burial will follow the services at Laenna
Cemetery in Chestnut.
Memorial donations may be made in Fern’s name to
Zion Lutheran School in Mt. Pulaski.
