Lincoln Daily News’ Chassidy White joined the Relay
team when she became a part of the LDN staff. Her position in sales
offered her the opportunity to call on several businesses in Logan
County and as she did so, she came up with the idea of a pub crawl.
There were two primary parts to her challenge to
local bar owners. First, she asked that they all donate drink tokens
to an auction item that would be included in the 2023 Pink Pumpkin
Auction.
Second, she asked each pub to take a pink pumpkin and collect
donations from patrons during the month of October. The idea was
that when customers paid their tabs, perhaps they would drop their
change into the pumpkin on their way out.
The plan worked out well. The pink pumpkin in the auction was a
popular item that brought in several hundred dollars for ACS.
The pumpkin buckets also worked out well, raising a combined total
that exceeded $1,000.
When all the money was collected, White and Karen
Castelein determined who had raised the most money and that bar
earned “braggin’ rights” for the year.
LDN and Debbie’s Downtown Floral in Lincoln provided the winner with
a lovely planter and a promised photo as the Top Dog Bar in the Pink
Pumpkin Challenge featured in a daily edition of the paper.
The business owners reported that they enjoyed the fun of the
competition and liked the idea of a single auction item that
represented all the bars collectively. They are looking forward to
next year.
