Obituary
John F. Harnacke Sr., 82, of Lincoln,
passed away on Thursday, January 4, 2024, at
Springfield Memorial Hospital surrounded by his
entire family.
John was born March 3, 1941, in Lincoln, the son of
John Harnacke and Irma Mae Kaiser. He married
Jeannette Miller on August 23, 1963, in Brunswick,
GA. She preceded him in death in 1997.
John is survived by his sons, John (Dana Harnacke),
James (Michelle) Harnacke, and Jason (Angie)
Harnacke; grandchildren, Brannon (Coral) Harnacke,
Mariscia (Tyler) Fairow, Noah (Petra) Harnacke,
McKenna (Cameron) Harnacke, and Allaniee (Joe)
Merritt; great-grandchildren, Hunter (Colten), Ava,
Raigan, Wyatt, Hattie, Westin, Kayleigh, and one
great-great granddaughter on the way. He is also
survived by a sister in-law, Shirley Felton; a
daughter-in-law, Gayla Harnacke; a special niece,
Teresa Newton; and a long time special friend, Mary
Osborn.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, his
step-mother: Martha Harnacke, sister, Evelyn Newton,
and his brother’s in-laws, Lloyd Miller and Stevie
Miller. |
John proudly served in the US Navy as
an aviation machinist from 1961 to 1965. He was a
lifelong farmer in Logan County. John enjoyed
overseeing his cattle and loved caring for his other
animals including cats, dogs, and sheep. He loved
John Deere two-cylinder tractors, Harley Davidson
motorcycles, Jack Daniels Whiskey & Water, Hershey
Bars, and his peach flavored chewing tobacco. Most
of all John loved his family, especially his three
sons, and his many friends.
Services for John will be held at 10:30 a.m. on
Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at Zion Lutheran Church
in Lincoln. An evening visitation will take place
from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, January 9, 2024,
at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln.
There will be an additional hour of visitation prior
to the service on Wednesday from 9:30 am - 10:30 am.
Burial will follow services at Richmond Grove
Cemetery in New Holland where full military rites
will be accorded by American Legion Post #263.
Memorials may be made in John’s name to Zion
Lutheran Church in Lincoln or Marine Corp. League
Detachment #1336.
