Marlene G. Walker, 73, of Atlanta, passed away on Friday, January 5, 2024, at Carle BroMenn Medical Center in Normal.

Cremation Rites have been accorded. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.

Marlene G. Mowery was born July 23, 1950, the daughter of Byron Leo and Hazel Katherine Cruse Mowery. She was united in marriage to Kenneth E. Walker on October 31, 1986. He preceded Marlene in death on February 12, 2023.

Marlene is survived by three sons: Eric (Lorie) Southerland, Bryon (Jamie) Southerland, and Jason (Beth) Southerland; niece Kathy Hollonbeck, who was like a daughter; 8 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and one brother, James Mowery.

She was preceded in death by her husband; one infant daughter; two grandsons: Matthew James Southerland and Michael J. Rodriguez; and two sisters: Kaye Comerford and Faye Zielinski.

Funeral Director

Marlene was a loving homemaker/troublemaker. She attended Stanford High School until the 11th grade and then completed her GED. While attending Lincoln College, she became a member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. She enjoyed crafting with various mediums and loved animals.

Memorials in Marlene’s memory may be made to the Humane Society of Logan County.

Final arrangements are entrusted with Quiram-Peasley Funeral Home of Atlanta.
