Peralta (6-4) allowed a leadoff homer and a
one-out single in the first before holding Chicago hitless over
the next six innings. He exited after the seventh and finished
with eight strikeouts and two walks in a 103-pitch outing.
William Contreras reached on an infield single to open the
Brewers' fourth and Christian Yelich followed with his eighth
homer, a 422-foot shot to center.
Jake Bauers drew a one-out walk and advanced when Ian Happ
appeared to lose Rhys Hoskins' fly ball to left in the sun for a
long single. Sal Frelick followed with an RBI single and Jackson
Chourio singled to load the bases. Andruw Monasterio struck out,
but Turang then sent a 1-0 pitch over the wall in right for his
second grand slam of the season.
Turang came up again with the bases loaded and two outs in the
eighth but was called out on strikes.
Hendricks (1-6) allowed seven runs on seven hits in 3 2/3
innings, striking out three and walking one.
Milwaukee, which entered Sunday with a 6 1/2 -game lead in the
NL Central, has won nine consecutive home series. The Brewers
are 22-6 in their past 28 home games after a 5-7 start.
Nico Hoerner opened the game with his fourth homer, sending the
second pitch from Peralta 383 feet to left-center to put the
Cubs up 1-0.
Cody Bellinger singled with one out and Happ drew a two-out
walk, but Peralta fanned Christopher Morel to end the threat.
The only other runner Peralta allowed was a one-out walk in the
third.
