On
Wednesday evening, July 3rd, the Lincoln Park District enjoyed what
may very well have been the largest crowd ever for the annual Fourth
of July Fireworks display. What had to have been at least 1,000 if
not more men, women and children, came to the park district early in
the evening. They first enjoyed a massive amount of food, then
participated in games and free balloon art, face painting and live
music before finding a place to settle in and await darkness and a
spectacular fireworks display.
All around the driving range area, visitors were taking part in the
many aspects of the evening.
Food trucks experienced very long lines as did the
balloon man and the face painter.
Other games were also busy throughout the daylight
time of the evening and the Aquatic Center was open with several
people enjoying the water before the fireworks.
Throughout the evening The Tangents provided live
music.

The best part of the evening may have been the happy
kids as they enjoyed all the activities, or perhaps watching all the
patriotic people, strolling around in their red, white, and blue.
As dusk approached, crowds started to settle in,
finding their ideal spot for viewing the fireworks. Then it was time
for the sparklers and other small pyrotechnics.
When darkness fell, the fireworks began immediately after the
singing of the National Anthem. The display this year was wonderful,
and the big finale at the end was stunning.
All in all, it was a great evening at the park district, and the
rain that would come later held off for until after everyone had
gone home. Unfortunately, that rain prevented the Thursday
Children’s Parade and water play at the Rec center with the Lincoln
Fire Department.
