[July 15, 2024]  ATHENS — Cheri D. Doom age 77, of Athens, passed away on July 12, 2024, at Country Lane Memory Care in Riverton.

Visitation:  Wednesday, July 17, 2024, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Mott & Henning Funeral Home in Athens

Second Visitation: 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 18, 2024 at Williamsville United Methodist Church

Service: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church

Funeral home: Mott & Henning Funeral Home, Athens

Obituary

Cheri D. Doom age 77, of Athens, passed away on July 12, 2024, at Country Lane Memory Care in Riverton.

She was born October 13, 1946, in Pittsfield, the daughter of Jeanne Newman and Wendall Stead.

She married Roland E Doom on January 22, 1966, at the Williamsville United Methodist Church.

Mourning her passing are, one son, Stuart R. Doom of Athens, two daughters, Stephanie (Darryl) Powers of Sumter, SC and Samantha (Doug) Detmers of Hartsburg, four grandchildren, Lindsay Shull of Anchorage, AK, Chelsea (Cody) Miller of Christiansburg, VA, Jordan Detmers of Elkhart, and Xavier Detmers of Athens, two great-grandsons, Clayton and Cooper Miller; siblings, John (Vickie) Newman, Chris Dorre, David (Karen) Newman; and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband Roland, parents Jeanne and James Newman and Wendall Stead.

Cheri loved being a homemaker, cooking for her family and employees. She worked for four years part-time at Waldenbooks. She also enjoyed crafting and doing floral arrangements. Cheri loved decorating for the holidays, especially Christmas, and being a grandma taking care of her family. She also enjoyed spending time with her dog, Dixiebelle.


Visitation will be held at Mott & Henning Funeral Home in Athens, on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Visitation will continue on Thursday July 18, 2024, at 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at 10:30 a.m. at Williamsville United Methodist Church.

Officiating will be Cody Miller

Burial will be held at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Springfield.
