[July 21, 2024]     Saturday, July 20, Emden’s 77th Homecoming continued with more events on what was a very pleasant weekend weatherwise.

At the many garage sales around town, people were out shopping for deals.

The Sons of the American Legion were selling grilled pork chops throughout the late morning.

Over at Luther Field on the edge of Emden, several teams competed in a whiffle ball tournament.

Around 2 p.m., people lined the streets of Emden for the homecoming parade.

The theme was Coast to Coast USA.

At the beginning of the lineup was a military style Humvee.

Next was the Emden American Legions Post 506, Sons of the American Legion and Emden Auxiliary Unit 506.

The parade’s Grand Marshall was former Emden resident Dick Reiners, who now lives in Lincoln, but remains involved in the community of Emden.

2023 Logan County Fair Queen Ellyn Martinez, Junior Miss Ellie Wrage and Little Miss Kodi Eigenbrod followed behind in a convertible. It was bittersweet for the fair royalty since it was the last of many parades they rode in as they come to the end of their reigns in less than two weeks.

A few people were also on Gator and Four wheelers.

Members of the Hartsburg, Emden and Lincoln Rural fire departments drove fire trucks along the route.

Businesses represented included Sun Ag and Rohlfs Implement. Kevin Zinser of KZ Auto Body drove his antique automobile.

St. Peter’s Lutheran Church float was filled with kids and advertised their upcoming VBS, which is July 22-26.

Saturday evening, homecoming fun continued with carnival style games, bouncy houses, a rock climbing wall, face painting and Bingo.

Joe Garcia and Julian Watson provided the musical entertainment.

It was another great homecoming weekend for those who came to enjoy the festivities.
