To the editor: I correspond
with a number of women incarcerated for long sentences at Logan and
have done so for three decades.
I endorse everything that Tammy Eveans, one of my
correspondents, has said in her eloquently written letter.
Thank you for publishing it!
Rarely do prison inmates have the opportunity to
address the public about the many injustices that they experience
while imprisoned. She has drawn attention to an issue of profound
importance to the welfare of her fellow inmates and their families
and should be heard by the general public.
The supposed objective of incarceration besides
punishment is to help inmates to improve their lives in preparation
for eventual release. Maintaining close tries to family and friends
is a vital part of rehabilitation.

This new plan negates that entirely.
I hope that Ms. Eveans’ voice will be heard.
