The tax on diesel is now 54.5 cents per gallon.
According to WalletHub analyst Cassandra Happe, gas taxes just
add frustration for most citizens.
“A lot of people who are driving on a regular basis are doing it
out of necessity,” Happe said.
Happe said drivers can try to offset higher taxes and prices for
gas by taking advantage of helpful apps.
“There’s some great ones like GasBuddy, which can help you find
the cheapest gas prices near you. You can also enroll in rewards
programs,” Happe said.
Happe added that many credit cards offer cash back or discounts
on gas purchases. Happe said she learned that there are cheaper
days to fill up your gas tank.
“Typically, Mondays are a better day for filling up your gas
tank. If you can maybe make it to Monday before filling up, that
might save you a little bit there,” Happe said.
Happe also said it is important to drive efficiently and take
care of your vehicle.
“Make sure you keep your vehicle maintained and drive at a
consistent speed to improve your fuel efficiency,” Happe
explained.
