“You’ll see new seating, two elevators, new restrooms, improved
ADA accessibility and heating for winter events,” said Illinois
Department of Agriculture Director Jerry Costello.
The Arena received an $8.6 million facelift. Projects focused on
repairing sidewalks, walls, steps and electrical systems.
Illinois State Fair manager Rebecca Clark said this year’s theme
is “It’s Showtime.”
“Step right up, you won’t believe your eyes as we transform
Happy Hollow into an 800-seat big top circus, as big top
adventures and spectacular showcase awaits,” said Clark.
The Illinois State Fair is bringing trams back to the
fairgrounds. Two complimentary trams will operate on a dedicated
route during the 11 days of the fair thanks to sponsorship from
the Illinois Corn Growers Association.
Costello said more and more people are making the trek to
Springfield to experience the fair.
“Two years ago, we broke the 2019 record by 126,000 people,”
said Costello. “Last year, we broke that by over 70,000 people,
so coming off two record-setting years and hoping to set a new
record this year.”
Some of the musical acts include Keith Urban, The Jonas Brothers
and Motley Crue.
The fair begins Aug. 8 and runs 11 days and kicks off with the
Twilight Parade through the streets of Springfield and through
the main gate
