Obituary

Robert “Bob” S. Eckert, 73, of Lincoln passed away Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at the Lincoln Memorial Hospital. He was born on September 4, 1950, in Lincoln, the son of the late Donald and Agnes (Huskins) Eckert.

Bob was a 1968 graduate of Lincoln Community High School and a 1972 graduate of Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. He graduated first in his class in the school of analytics, finance, and economics at SIU. He spent his career working for the state of Illinois at the Logan Correctional Center in Lincoln.

On September 4, 1978, Bob married Deborah June Cooley and spent the next 38 years by her side until her passing in 2017.

Bob is survived by his two children: Andrew (Rene) Eckert of Dillsburg, PA, and Jamie (Seth) Peacock of Peoria, his six grandchildren: Tyler (Sarah) Musser of New Cumberland, PA, Austin Musser of Dillsburg, PA, Isabella and Ethan Eckert of Dillsburg, PA, and Zoey and Zander Peacock of Peoria, his four sisters and brother: Joyce Oltmanns, Nancy (Louis) Farkas, Judy (Charles) Barkley, Mary (Matthew) Mason, and Daniel (Juliene) Eckert, all of Lincoln; and his sister-in-law: Cathie (Michael) Bradley of Auburn.

He was predeceased by one brother, James Babbs, and brother in-law, Marvin Oltmanns.

The Eckert’s and Huskins’ family lineages are long, and he had enumerable nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended relatives. Bob is also survived by his beloved poodle, “Oreo”.

Shy by nature, Bob enjoyed cooking, fishing, reading, history, old time radio shows, and traveling. He was extremely intelligent and witty and took great pride in his children and grandchildren. Despite his ailing health over the last few years, he made every attempt to attend family gatherings and activities. He will be dearly missed by his family.

Funeral Service for Bob will be at 11 a.m. Monday, June 3rd, at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln. Visitation will be held one hour prior (from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.) also at the funeral home. Burial to follow the service at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Lincoln.
