Obituary

Vincent “Vinny” Bernard Trauner, 16, passed away at Springfield Memorial Hospital in Springfield, Illinois on Saturday, May 25, 2024.

Vinny is survived by his parents, Maureen and Jim Trauner, and younger sister, Olivia, of Elkhart, older brothers, Jake Trauner of Springfield, and John Henry Trauner of Lincoln, and dear friend and cousin, Eli Trauner, of Richardson, TX. Also surviving are numerous uncles, aunts, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his older sister, Rosemary Trauner; aunt, Melissa Trauner; cousin, Katie Bell; paternal grandparents, Clara and Bernard Trauner; and maternal grandparents, Juliann and Roy Tinder.

Vinny was born on May 19, 2008, in Eminence, Indiana. When still very young, he and his family moved to Elkhart, in Central Illinois, where Vinny enjoyed spending time with family and friends and exploring the environs of the quiet, close-knit community. He attended Mt. Pulaski Grade School and Mt. Pulaski High School and was actively involved in a range of sports and other activities over the years, including Drama, Air Soft, and loved riding his motorbike. Each summer, he enthusiastically joined in the grueling task of detasseling corn, working his way into a leadership position in his crew.

He had a deep knowledge of particular aspects of the U.S. military, took great pride in both his American heritage and Slovenian ancestry, and often expressed his abiding love for Casey’s pizza and his dad’s barbeque.

He was highly regarded and well-liked by family, teachers and coaches, and his many friends for his pleasant nature and wry sense of humor. He regularly received the Sacraments with his family and often volunteered to read from Holy Scripture to the congregation during Sunday Mass.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 1, 2024, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Mt. Pulaski, with Rev. Joseph Dondanville officiating.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday May 31, 2024, at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Mt. Pulaski.

A private family Rosary will be recited prior to the visitation.

His cremated remains will be laid to rest at a later date beside his sister, Rosemary, and grandparents, Clara and Bernard Trauner, at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Indianapolis Indiana.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church.
