Obituary

Earl E. Boyer, 88, of Middletown, passed away at home on June 2, 2024.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Friday, June 7, 2024, at Holland Barry & Bennett Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. with Rick Deters speaking. Burial will be in Elkhart Cemetery.

Earl was born August 31, 1935, in Logan County. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. Earl married Nancy Anne "Annie" (Altman) on July 27, 1957. He worked at Stetson's where he met Annie and then began farming in 1960.

Earl loved and respected the land and his animals. He loved his cattle and was a member of the Simmental Association. He donated many calves to the Logan County Calf Scrambles over the years. He supported the community and was a member of several area associations including Logan County Farm Bureau, Sangamon County Farm Bureau, Logan County Fair Association, Middletown American Legion Post 216, Greenview AMVETS, he was a Mason and a member of the New Holland Middletown School Board. Earl was a hard worker and always provided for his family and his community. When he did take a break, he enjoyed mushrooming with Annie and going to the food store in Meredosia.

Survivors include his wife Annie Boyer, children DiAnne Boyer (GlenAukamp), Michael "Mike" Boyer (Tracey), and Richard "Rick" Boyer (Mary); grandchildren Ashley Boyer (Brian),Matthew Boyer (Kelsey), Megan Basecke (Neil), Melanie Boyer (Martin), and Michelle Boyer; great-grandchildren Bryce and Brinley Boyer and Henry, Eleanor, and Evelyn Basecke; sister Joyce Horney and nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Duane "Pete" Boyer, brother Dean Boyer, and brother Kenneth "Goody" Boyer.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Logan County Fair Association or to Middletown Fire and Rescue and will be accepted at the funeral home.
