[June 11, 2024]

Congratulations to the Class of 2024 Male and Female Athletes of the Year from Lincoln Community High School ~ Ki’on Carson and Becca Heitzig!

These two amazing athletes stood out among a very talented athletic Class of 2024 at LCHS.

Ki’on Carson

Carson started his senior year by guiding the Railsplitter football team to the playoffs and earning recognition for his accomplishments on the field at a Chicago Bears game in December. Carson quickly transitioned to the basketball court where he helped the team to a 22-10 record. Carson concluded his senior year at the IHSA State Track and Field State Finals in Charleston.

Carson will continue his academic and athletic career at Monmouth College.

Becca Heitzig

The theme of Heitzig’s senior year was “State Champion ~ again and again and again and again!”

She started the school year off and running and digging, too. Heitzig was excelling at two sports at the same time last fall. Incredible!

She won a state championship in Cross Country in early November and then as the libero of the volleyball team, she helped the Lady Railers to a runner-up finish just days later at the IHSA State Volleyball Finals in Normal.

With little rest, Heitzig put on a basketball uniform and her and her teammates began the quest to return to Normal, this time determined to bring home the state championship.

The Lady Railers basketball team, aided by Heitzig and her sweet little jumper, succeeded with a perfect 38-0 record to end their magical season on top in the IHSA Class 3A Girls State Basketball Finals.

Heitzig earned two more state championships on the track in Charleston in May to end her decorated LCHS career. A state champion in the 800m and the 1600m was icing on the cake for this amazing athlete.

Her collection of medals throughout her career is quite impressive and she’ll leave those behind soon to begin her collegiate career at Iowa State University.

Congratulations to both Ki’on and Becca for this elite honor and for being amazing human beings! You never see either of them without a smile.
