Andrew Vaughn and Paul DeJong homered for the
White Sox, who have lost 28 of 33 road games this season.
Trailing 3-2, Seattle's Josh Rojas drew a two-out walk in the
seventh off Tanner Banks. Julio Rodriguez greeted reliever John
Brebbia (0-4) with an infield single and Raleigh laced a 3-0
pitch into the right-field corner to score both runners.
Reliever Trent Thornton (2-1) got the victory and Ryne Stanek
earned his fifth save.
Thorpe, acquired March 13 from San Diego in the four-player deal
for Dylan Cease, was called up after going 7-1 with a 1.35 ERA
at Double-A Birmingham.
Thorpe allowed two runs -- one earned -- on three hits over five
innings. The right-hander walked two and struck out four.
The expected matchup against the Mariners' Bryan Woo, Thorpe's
teammate at Cal Poly, didn't happen as Woo was scratched from
his start as the team awaits results of an MRI on his right
elbow.
The Mariners called up lefty Jhonathan Diaz from Triple-A Tacoma
to fill in for Woo. Diaz went 5 1/3 innings and gave up three
runs on nine hits, with one walk and four strikeouts.
The White Sox struck first in the second inning, loading the
bases with no outs on singles by DeJong, Korey Lee and Zach
DeLoach. Diaz struck out Nicky Lopez before Martin Maldonado,
who entered the game batting just .071, grounded a single
through the left side of the infield to score a run.
The Mariners tied it in the bottom of the inning on two-out,
opposite-field doubles by Luke Raley and Mitch Garver.
The White Sox regained the lead with one out in the third as
Vaughn lined a solo shot on a hanging curve over the left-field
wall and DeJong followed by taking a fastball deep to right to
make it 3-1.
The Mariners got a run back in the bottom of the inning as Rojas
reached on a one-out error before Rodriguez grounded into a
forceout. Rodriguez stole second and scored on Raleigh's
ground-rule double down the right-field line.
