Obituary
Dolly Leo Buckles, 99, of Mt. Pulaski
was called home by her Heavenly Father on Tuesday,
June 4th, 2024, at Lincoln Memorial Hospital.
Dolly was born on January 7th, 1925, in Elmira, West
Virginia, to Carl H. and Tina (Hall) Campbell. She
married Leroy Keith “L.K.” Buckles, Jr. on December
22nd, 1945, in Washington D.C. He passed away on
November 4th, 2002, at the age of 78.
Surviving are their children: Lisa Jill (Stephen)
Rinkel of Mahomet, and Leroy Keith (Terri) Buckles
III of Jacksonville, Arkansas, five grandchildren:
Christa (Ryan) Jenkins, Caitlin (Christopher)
Ptasienski, Alexandra Dolly Buckles, Maria (Andrew)
Sventek, and Jimmy (Cecilia) Polatsitis, and eight
great-grandchildren: Campbell, Cullen, Lila, Logan,
Mason, Brandon, Damon, and Atticus. Also surviving
are two of Dolly’s ten siblings: Stanley Campbell of
Servia, West Virginia, and James Edwin (Doris)
Campbell of Golita, California.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her
husband, and her siblings: Harvey, Denton, Donald,
Carl, Jr., Dell, Roger, Maxine, and Carolyn.
Dolly graduated from Mt Pulaski High School. After
marrying L.K., she volunteered to be the bookkeeper
for the Buckles farm and worked for a local law
firm. Her greatest joy was raising her children.
Dolly was a member of the Mt. Pulaski First
Christian Church where she was an active and
dedicated member for more than three quarters of a
century. |
She loved volunteering and was a
member of the Loyal Daughters of the First Christian
Church, a volunteer at Vonderlieth Living Center for
28 years, and volunteered for 20 plus years at the
Mt. Pulaski Historical Museum, and 12 years as a
Piecemaker (making quilts) for St. John’s Lutheran
Church of Mt. Pulaski. Dolly was also a longtime
active member of Mt. Pulaski American Legion
Auxillary Post 447.
Funeral Services for Dolly will be at 2 p.m. on
Thursday, June 13th, at the Mt. Pulaski First
Christian Church. Visitation will be held one hour
prior to the service (from 1:00 to 2:00pm) also at
the church. Burial will take place at Steenbergen
Cemetery following the service.
Memorials may be made in Dolly’s memory to the Mt.
Pulaski First Christian Church, the Mt. Pulaski
Historical Museum, or the St. John’s Lutheran Church
Piecemakers.
Arrangements have been entrusted to
Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Mt. Pulaski.
