Obituary
Marlin Roos, 89, of Lincoln, passed away on Tuesday,
June 4, 2024, at Copper Creek Cottages in Lincoln.
Marlin was born January 10, 1935, in Lawndale, the
son of Harold and Rebecca (Cress) Roos. He married
Kathryn Laramee on November 20, 1960, in Clinton.
She preceded him in death in 2022.
Marlin is survived by his children, Douglas Roos,
Debra (Scott) Leake, and Deanna (Shawn) Hays; five
grandchildren, Whitney Roos, Caleb Roos, Jade
(Shannon) Leake, Kristin (Ashe) Morehead, Matthew
(Elizabeth) Hays; and his five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife,
Kathy; twin sister, Melba Novack; and his brothers,
Hervil and Harold Roos.
During his career, Marlin worked as the photographer
for the Illinois State Museum, traveling throughout
the state to take photos for the museum for over
forty years. He also had his own photography
business, Roos Photography, which he called his
hobby shop, where he photographed weddings and other
gatherings. Marlin was a member of Zion Lutheran
Church in Lincoln, serving as an elder for thirty
plus years. He was the office holder for the
Lutheran Layman League, where he held every elected
office at some point. |
Marlin served on the District Board of Directors and
Concordia Historical Institute in St. Louis for
fifteen years. He spent eleven years on the District
Mission Commission and was a Co-President of the
International Twins Association. Marlin has been
known to play his harmonica at several events and
surrounding facilities throughout Logan County.
Marlin also served in the army reserves.
Services for Marlin will be held at 11:00 am on
Friday, June 14, 2024, at Zion Lutheran Church in
Lincoln. Visitation will take place two hours prior
from 9:00-11:00 am also at the church. Burial will
follow the service at Zion Cemetery where full
military rites will be accorded by the Lincoln
American Legion Post #263.
Memorials may be made in Marlin’s name to Zion
Lutheran Church or School in Lincoln.
