Authorities, residents prepare for Illinois heatwave

Illinoisans will be feeling the heat this week. An extended period of hot and humid conditions is expected across Illinois through Saturday. High temperatures will be in the mid-90s for much of the state all week, with overnight lows not dipping below 70 degrees. Cooling centers are being made available in several communities around Illinois. An air quality alert has been issued for Chicago and surrounding areas.

Study finds teachers are worried about violence at school

A new study from DePaul University and the American Psychological Association says violence and threats are causing many teachers to quit the profession. Researchers surveyed thousands of educators, from pre-K level through high school, regarding violent behavior from students before, during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. The study found that 57% of teachers confirmed plans to quit teaching due to experiences with violence.

War of words between Trump and Pritzker heats up

Gov. J.B. Pritzker has been on the offensive of late, criticizing former President Donald Trump at speaking events. Now Trump is returning the favor. Trump took to the social media platform X and called Pritzker “sloppy” and said he has presided over the destruction and disintegration of Illinois at levels never seen before in any state.
