Juneteenth in Lincoln brings many people together for an evening of fun

The Hunt Four Foundation hosted its fifth annual Juneteenth event in Latham Park in Lincoln on Wednesday evening.

In years past the event has been held in a couple of different locations. Most recently the event has been at Scully Park, one block south of the Logan County Courthouse Square. This year the event moved to Latham Park, one block north of the square.

Pekin Street adjacent to the park was closed for the large number of food vendors and other vendor tables and tents that were present for the event.

On McLean Street, adjacent to the park were two extra large inflatable slides and obstacle courses for the youngsters. Children were also enjoying playing on the new equipment in the playground area of the park along with enjoying some of the old staples that have been a part of the park for years.

Wrapping around the base of the Latham Park bandstand were tables set up with information provided by the Lincoln Heritage Museum about the impact the date June 19th had on the landscape of our nation, with the true absolution of slavery in the United States.

There were another few tables set up at the bandstand that provided Juneteenth swag including t shirts and other materials. A DJ was set up there as well, playing music that resonated throughout the park.
