Obituary

Deborah Ann (Dumas) Short, 78, of Lincoln, IL was born on April 23, 1946, in Fowler, Indiana, to Donald Nelson Dumas and Rosa Barbara Korbe.

She died unexpectedly but peacefully on June 16th, 2024.

She is survived by her husband, Paul Short of Lincoln; daughter, Elizabeth Short (Alyx Ancira) of Elgin; sisters, Annette (Dumas) Gettleman of Lincoln and Julie (Dumas) Griffith of St Louis; her granddaughter, Gabriella Ancira; two great granddaughters, Sage & Serena; nephew, Patrick (Shanna) Gettleman of Williamsville; their children, Mikenna, Evan & Lauren; and other loved family.

Deborah was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Stephanie Dumas.

Deborah graduated from Tuscola High School and taught in Chicago for several years. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Library Science from ISU and found her true calling - being a school librarian in Warrensburg and Watseka, IL. She won an award for her school programs for the 1976 Bicentennial celebration from the Illinois Association of School Librarians.

She had the gift of care, visiting friends and neighbors in need. She was a volunteer at the hospital. Deb believed strongly in helping others and was the first phone call for many people when they needed a friendly ear to talk to. She demonstrated the saying “be the change you want to see in the world.” Deb touched so many lives by simply being her. She was an avid reader and a history buff. Deb loved tending to and spending time in her beautiful yard. Deb was warm, generous, and not afraid to speak her mind.

A memorial service for Deb will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, June 22, 2024, at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln. A visitation will take place one hour prior from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, also at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made in Deborah’s name to Lincoln Public Library Children’s Department.

Burial will be at a later date at Long Point Cemetery in Wapella, IL.
