According
to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recent data, the
life expectancy of men in the United States is 5.4 years shorter than
Women. In addition, data suggests that men are less likely to visit
their healthcare professional to talk about their health than women. The
Logan County Department of Public Health recognizes these issues and
supports the national movement to recognize June as Men’s Health Month.
Per the CDC, data also suggests the risk factors that men exceed women
in are smoking, acute/binge drinking, and hypertension. In addition, men
are also overrepresented in a wide range of stigmatizing social
conditions including incarceration and homelessness.
The purpose of Men’s Health Month is to raise awareness about
preventable health issues and encourage early detection and treatment of
disease among men and boys.

Some of the keys to good health are eating a healthy,
well-balanced diet, staying active by choosing physical activities
that keep you on your feet and off the couch, and by making
prevention a priority. Good prevention includes eliminating bad
habits, such as smoking, and getting regular health check-ups.
If you would like to learn more about improving men’s
health, you can visit the CDC website at
