On
Wednesday morning when readers paid a visit to Lincoln Daily News to
get the most recent headlines from the community, they were met with
an ominous message that the site they were trying to access was not
secure or even worse could be an imposter aimed at stealing personal
information.
It sounded much worse than it was, but it was enough to give our
readers pause before clicking through. Some of our readers reached
out to ask us if everything was okay, and should they be concerned
for themselves.
We apologize for the concern it may have caused some of you and want
you to know that LDN was not attacked, hacked, or hijacked. Your
personal information was not at risk, and the message you received
was simply the worst-case scenario for what ended up being a glitch
with our Security Certificate that enables us to have a https secure
website.

LDN is fortunate to have talented
IT staff in-house and from a third-party source. Once IT started
digging into it and the error was revealed, the problem was
fixed within a matter of minutes.
Again we apologize to our readers for the alarm it
may have caused. We understand fully the need to feel confident in
the security of the websites you visit daily and we strive to make
sure that you have no reason to doubt the safety of visiting our
website.
We appreciate our readers, and want them to always be safe in their
internet activities.
