Obituary
The Lord welcomed home Jane Whitson,
of Mt. Pulaski on Thursday June 20, 2024. Our sweet
, kind and loving wife and mother.
Jane was born on June 28, 1933, in Macon County, the
daughter of Alvin T. and Florence M. (Larrabee)
Boyd. She was the 11th child and the youngest of the
family. As a child, she liked to be known as “Miss
A.T. Boyd”.
Jane graduated from Argenta High School at the age
of 16 and began working at AE Staley as a
switchboard operator. She married Lynn Whitson on
January 2, 1953, when he was on leave from the Navy.
She went to Virginia for a short time and to Long
Beach, CA, where he was stationed until March, 1955.
Her four children were born between 1955 and 1959.
She loved her children and being a mother. She was a
hard working farm wife for most of her life. She
enjoyed being outdoors working alongside her family,
when she wasn't in the kitchen preparing delicious
meals for family and workers. Jane also enjoyed
cross stitch and quilting (with sisters and
sisters-in-law). She made beautiful quilts for her
children and grandchildren. Jane and Lynn went to
Arizona every winter for over 40 years. She really
enjoyed her home in Lake Havasu City.
Friday was Mom’s fun day. After going to her
hairdresser, she would meet up with her best friend,
Jenny Sams. They would shop, they would talk and
they would giggle. They spread their joy to all who
heard their laughter.
Jane was a long time member of the Latham Baptist
Church, but for several years, attended the First
Christian Church of Mt. Pulaski where her prayers
were answered when her husband was baptized at the
age of 83. Praise God! |
Jane is survived by her husband of 71
years, Lynn of Mt. Pulaski, her son, Mark and wife
Leigh Ann of Arcola and daughter Marla Durst and
husband Ken of Mt. Pulaski, six grandchildren, Adam
Whitson, Joshua (Jaimee) Whitson, Tyson Durst, Taryn
Durst, Caleb (Leslie) Whitson, Corey (Bri) Whitson,
great grandchildren, Ava and Beau Whitson, Skyler
Durst, Lauren Whitson, Neil and Brigham Whitson,
Bryleigh and Kennley Whitson and many nieces and
nephews.
Jane was preceded in death by two sons, Mike and
Matt, her parents, brothers, Lyle, Wayne, Glenn,
Dale, Joe and Jean, sisters, Edna Kopp, Ruth Wilber,
Katherine Wilber and Florence Davis.
Jane loved her big family. We can only imagine the
great celebration taking place in Heaven due to this
great reunion.
Services for Jane will be at 11:00 A.M. Monday June
24, 2024 at the First Christian Church of Mt.
Pulaski with Casey McCormick officiating. Visitation
will also be at the church from 9:00-11:00 A.M.
prior to the service. Burial will follow services at
Mt. Pulaski Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the
Mt. Pulaski Christian Church. Services are entrusted
to Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Mt.
Pulaski.
