On
March 4, the Menard County Extension Office in Petersburg was abuzz
with excitement as young minds delved into the realms of
crime-solving and espionage at the Menard County 4-H Crime and Spy
Funshop. In collaboration with generous partners including Menard
County Sheriff Mark Oller, the Illinois State Police, Menard County
Farm Bureau, and the Athens National Honor Society, the event aimed
to ignite curiosity and foster skills in observation and
investigation among participants.
Throughout the event, attendees were immersed in a
series of captivating activities designed to sharpen their detective
skills, work as a team, and become more observant to the world
around them. From discovering fingerprints using magnets to
exploring chromatography techniques, youth were empowered with
hands-on experiences that unraveled the mysteries of forensic
science. The event served as an invaluable platform for participants
to expand their knowledge and practical skills in the field of
investigation.
One of the highlights of the day was the surprise drone fly
conducted by Illinois State Trooper Emily Maulding in the parking
lot. Trooper Maulding's demonstration provided a thrilling glimpse
into the innovative tools utilized in modern-day law enforcement,
captivating the audience and inspiring awe among the young
detectives.
