[March 17, 2024]  LINCOLN - James A. “Jimmy” Babbs, 64, of Lincoln passed away on Friday, March 15, 2024, at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

Visitation:  Noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln

Service:  2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home

Obituary

James A. “Jimmy” Babbs, 64, of Lincoln passed away on Friday, March 15, 2024, at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

Jim was born on July 20, 1959, in Lincoln, the son of James “Buddy” & Martha (Evans) Babbs.

Jim is survived by his mother; his children, Veronica Babbs, Monica (Chris) McAfee, and James (Erica) Babbs Jr.; his siblings, Donald “Donnie” (Cindy) Babbs and Barbara Babbs; his grandchildren, Chase McAfee, Joey McAfee, Grace Randell, Olivia McAfee, Vida Wilkins, and Evelyn Babbs.

He was preceded in death by his father; and his brothers, Darrin and Fred Babbs.

Jim worked for Caterpillar as a mechanic for 25 years. He was also a Correctional Officer at Lincoln Correctional Center.

He enjoyed fast cars, watching and playing football, and cooking. He loved sharing his passion for cooking with people and would give meals to his friends and family. Above all else, Jim loved spending time with his friends and family.

Services for Jim will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln. Visitation will take place two hours prior to the service (12 p.m. to 2 p.m.) also at the funeral home. Burial will follow the services at New Union Cemetery in Lincoln.

Memorial donations may be made in Jim’s name to your local food pantry.
