The
Railsplitters defeated the Olympia Spartans 22-0 on Saturday as the
wind and the pitches were a little wild in Stanford, much to the
favor of Lincoln.
Lincoln pounded out 19 hits off four different pitchers while
completing a four-inning game.
Calvin Elgin had the only hit for Olympia, a single in the bottom of
the second inning.
Nobody in the batter’s box had more fun Saturday than the
Railsplitters lead-off hitter, Colbie Glenn. Glenn had three singles
and two doubles, drove in four runs and scored three times for
Lincoln. Glenn started the hit parade on a 1-1 count in the top of
the first inning, when he doubled to right field. Michael Lucas
advanced Glenn to third when he singled to center. With Brenden
Wurth in the batter’s box, Glenn and Lucas pulled off the double
steal and Lincoln was up 1-0. Wurth would walk in the inning and
after a single by Jarrett Evers, Trey Schilling doubled to left,
sending two more runs across the plate for Lincoln. Lucas and Wes
Tedrick, the courtesy runner for Wurth, each scored on Schilling’s
hit. Lincoln plated the fourth and final run of the inning when Drew
Hayes grounded out to third, scoring Evers.
Brenden Wurth took the mound for Lincoln in the bottom of the first
inning with a 4-0 lead.
Wurth faced three batters in the bottom of the first inning. He
issued a lead-off walk but that base runner would be erased when
Lincoln’s catcher, Griffin Shaw, threw him out attempting to steal
second. Wurth struck out the other two batters in the inning.
The Railsplitters kept their bats busy in the second inning, with
the first four guys getting base hits. Ashton Corley, Glenn, Lucas
and Wurth all singled. Corley’s run made the score 5-0 and after two
more batters were each hit by pitches, Lincoln’s lead was 6-0. Shaw
made the score 8-0 when he hit a line drive to center to score
Tedrick and Evers. With Drew Hayes adding a single in the inning and
the Spartans pitcher tossing a wild pitch, the Railsplitters took a
10-0 lead with just one out. A strikeout and a groundout would
finally retire Lincoln’s half of the inning.
In the bottom of the second inning, Wurth allowed a single but no
damage was done as he also recorded three strikeouts.

The top of the third inning was actually the big
inning for Lincoln as nine runs scored on five hits. Four walks and
a hit batter also helped the Railsplitters in the inning. Glenn
started the inning with his second double of the day and he scored
on a single by Lucas. Two more runs scored in the inning on wild
pitches. A bases loaded walk to Kyle Koehler sent another run home
for Lincoln. Glenn came up again in the inning and this time his
single drove home Schilling and Hayes. Wurth had no trouble pitching
and hitting versus Olympia and he would clear the bases with a
double to right. Koehler, Glenn and Lucas all scored on that play,
making the score a whopping 19-0.
Once again, Wurth was cruising on the mound and he
retired the side in order on six pitches in the bottom of the third
inning.
In the top of the fourth inning, Hayes contributed an RBI double
that scored Schilling and Koehler and Glenn each had RBI singles to
complete the scoring.
Wurth’s pitching was stellar in the bottom of the fourth inning as
he tossed six more pitches to retire the Spartans in order.
Lincoln walked away winners by a final score of
22-0.
Brenden Wurth (1-0) was the winning pitcher for Lincoln. Wurth faced
13 batters. He threw 46 pitches and 28 were strikes. He struck out
five batters, walked one and allowed just one hit.
Colbie Glenn led the offense with a 5-for-5 performance and four
RBIs and three runs scored.
Michael Lucas and Drew Hayes were both 3-for-4 for Lincoln. Lucas
scored four runs and had one RBI. Hayes drove in three runs and
scored twice.
Trey Schilling was 2-for-2 with three RBIs and three runs scored.
Brenden Wurth was 2-for-3 with three RBIs.
Jarrett Evers, Griffin Shaw, Kyle Koehler and Ashton Corley each had
a base hit for the Railsplitters.
The Railsplitters improved to 2-0 on the season.
Lincoln will host Sacred Heart-Griffin on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
