[March 04, 2024]  LINCOLN - Harry Tibbs, 86, of Lincoln, passed away on Thursday, February 29, 2024, at Springfield Memorial Hospital.

Visitation:  4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, March 8, 2024, at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln

Service:  A celebration of life will be held at a later time

Obituary

Harry Tibbs, 86, of Lincoln, passed away on Thursday, February 29, 2024, at Springfield Memorial Hospital.

Harry was born June 12, 1937, in Greenview. The son of Cecil and Lucinda (Kurtz) Tibbs. He married Jonette Fox on June 18, 1966, in Middletown. They spent 57 wonderful years of marriage together.

Harry is survived by his wife, Jonette; his daughters, Angela (Todd) Stalter, Dena (Aaron) Bergman, and Erin (Michael) Hensel; his three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren and another great-grandson on the way.

Harry was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Cecil Edward Tibbs, James Robert Tibbs, and Paul Irwin Tibbs; and his grandson, Bryan Scott Bergman.

Harry was renowned for his artistic talents and abilities all over the United States. He was employed at Stetson’s China. He then was employed as an artist with General Electric. He made difficult and complicated designs seem effortless. Harry was presented with The Steuben Glass Award stating, “his talent, ingenuity, and dedication of the General Purpose Control Department’s in-house Artist/Typesetter are the highest degree of professionalism.”

 

After graduating from Middletown High School, Harry proudly served his country in the United States Army. Harry was a co-founder and past president of the Deer Creek Archery Club. He was a past recipient of the Pope & Young Award.

Harry was a talented woodworker, wood carver, commercial sign painter, artist, and calligrapher. He was also known for teaching calligraphy courses.

Many local farmers commissioned Harry and his talents to letter their trucks, farming implements, and signs for their farms and businesses.

Harry loved fishing and traveling to Arizona in the winter. Above all else, Harry loved and adored his family.

A visitation for Harry will take place from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, March 8, 2024, at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln. A celebration of life will be held at a later time.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Harry’s name to Ronald McDonald House Charities 5444 S, Drexel Ave, Chicago, IL 60615 or Shiners Children's Hospital 4400 Clayton Ave, St. Louis, MO, 63110.
