Thursday afternoon was another chilly day at Mike Curry Field as the Lincoln Railsplitters fell to the Dunlap Eagles 12-8.

The two teams exchanged leads five times, with the Eagles scoring five runs in the later innings to take the lead and hang on for the win.

Dunlap out hit Lincoln 14 to 11 and the two errors committed by the Railsplitters also made a difference on this very cold and windy day at the ballpark.

An error, two hits and two walks allowed Dunlap to take a 3-0 lead in the first inning off starter Carson Fuiten.

Lincoln went ahead 4-3 in the bottom of the second inning. Trey Schilling started things off with a line drive single to left, stole second and scored on Griffin Shaw’s single to right. After Drew Hayes hit a solid single to center, Ashton Corley tied the game with a triple. Wes Tedrick and Hayes scored on Corley’s hit. Corley scored the go-ahead run on a passed ball. Each and every hit in the inning was scorched by the Railsplitters’ bats.

Dunlap went ahead 7-4 in the top of the third inning. They scored four runs on five hits. Lincoln even had a 1-2-3 double play in the inning to avoid further disaster.

Lincoln scored twice in the bottom of the third inning.

Michael Lucas had a lead-off double and he advanced to third on defensive indifference and scored on a passed ball. Shaw drove in the second run with a single to short and Lincoln was inching closer, trailing just 7-6.

In the bottom of the fourth inning Lincoln earned the lead back. Colbie Glenn singled and went on to steal both second and third. He then scored the tying run on a wild pitch. Schilling’s RBI single scored Brenden Wurth with the go-ahead run in this inning.

The 8-7 lead lasted until the top of the fifth inning. Four singles and two walks did the damage here. Dunlap took advantage and scored four runs, taking over the game with an 11-8 lead.
