Railers softball team suffers two losses

The
Lincoln Railers softball team is still looking for that first win of
the season.
They will have more opportunities this week, hosting Morton today at
4:30 p.m. and Springfield Southeast on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. The team
will also play at Jacksonville on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, they suffered losses last week to Sacred Heart-Griffin
and Williamsville.

Lincoln played at Sacred Heart-Griffin last Tuesday and fell behind
3-0 in the bottom in the first inning but came back to tie the
Cyclones by the third inning.
Lincoln scored twice in the top of the second inning. An RBI single
by Kate Farnam plated the first run and then Regan Kutz scored on a
passed ball. Kelsey Marten and Regan Kutz also had hits in the
inning.
With two outs in the top of the third inning, Grey Gilbert reached
base on an error. A walk to Faith Eckhardt moved her to second.
Gilbert then took third on a passed ball and also tied the game
scoring on a passed ball.
The Cyclones took a 7-3 lead in the bottom fifth inning with RBI
singles doing most of the damage.
Kutz led off the top of the sixth inning with the first home run of
her high school career. Kutz sent a 1-0 count over the left field
fence, making the score 7-4.
The Cyclones got a run back in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Taryn Stoltzenburg and Grey Gilbert each had singles in the seventh
inning. With Stoltzenburg’s speed she scored a run on an error by
the second baseman.
That was all the offense for Lincoln as the Cyclones held on for the
8-5 win.
Lincoln out hit SHG eight to seven.

Taryn Stoltzenburg and Regan Kutz had two hits apiece for the
Railers.
Grey Gilbert, Kelsey Marten, Kara Farnam and Emma Hutchison each had
one hit.
Madisen Wurth started in the circle for Lincoln. She worked three
and one-third innings, allowing three runs on three hits. She walked
four and struck out seven.
Regan Kutz worked an inning and two-thirds, giving up three hits and
four runs. Two runs were earned. She walked one.
Nora Block worked an inning, allowing one hit and one earned run.
She struck out two batters.

Lincoln 4
Williamsville 14
Lincoln scored first against Williamsville on Friday night in a game
that saw the score go up for the home team and the temperature
drastically go down as the game progressed.
Kelsey Marten had an RBI single in the top of the first inning to
put Lincoln on the board.
Elle Smithers and Norah Dodsworth each homered in the bottom of the
first inning, allowing the Bullets to go ahead 4-1.
Lincoln plated two runs in the top of the second inning as Taryn
Stoltzenburg singled to center, driving home Norah Block and Emma
Hutchison scored on the throw back to the infield.
An RBI single and an error extended the lead to 6-3 for
Williamsville in the bottom of the second.
Three singles, a double and a home run in the bottom of the fifth
inning put Williamsville up 12-3.

Lincoln added a run in the top of the sixth inning.
Marten led off the inning with a double. Regan Kutz put down a
successful bunt single. Block added an RBI single to left field,
scoring Lily Holmes.
After the Bullets scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning,
the teams were able to end the game early in what turned out to be a
miserably cold night.
The Bullets handed the Railers a 14-4 loss, leaving Lincoln winless
on the season so far.
Kelsey Marten, Regan Kutz and Norah Block each had two hits for the
Railers.
Taryn Stoltzenburg had one hit and two RBIs.
Marten and Block each had one RBI.
Madisen Wurth took the loss for Lincoln. She gave up three hits and
four runs. She walked three and struck out three.
Regan Kutz pitched three and two-thirds innings, giving up eight
runs and eight hits. Only one run was earned. She struck out three
and walked one.
Norah Block pitched the sixth inning, giving up two runs and three
walks.
Lincoln is 0-5 to start the season.
