Landon Smith got the start on the mound for
Mount Pulaski and he pitched a gem for six and two-thirds
innings. Smith allowed a double in the top of the third inning
and that was the only hit for Okaw Valley. Smith fanned nine
batters and walked three.
Luke Martin relieved Smith in the seventh inning. Martin got the
final batter of the game to strike out looking.
Mount Pulaski took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning
on an RBI double by Landon Smith.
In the bottom of the third inning, Mount Pulaski added two more
runs. Eric Cooper’s RBI single and Chance Payne’s sacrifice fly
scored the runs.
Mount Pulaski scored two more runs in the bottom of the fifth
inning. Payne and Martin each hit RBI singles to put Mount
Pulaski up 5-0 and that score would carry the Hilltoppers to
victory.
Mount Pulaski is now 5-0 on the season.
The Hilltoppers host Unity Christian today at 3:30 p.m.
