The Mount Pulaski Hilltoppers continued their stellar season with a 15-3 win over Meridian on Monday night in Macon.

The game was pretty much in the win column for Mount Pulaski after an eight-run third inning, capped off by a grand slam by Chance Payne.

Landon Smith added a two-run shot to keep the Hawks at a distance as the two teams faced off on Snitker Field, named for former Macon baseball player and current Atlanta Braves manager, Brian Snitker.

The Hilltoppers bats were making contact early, with Franklin Wade and Eric Cooper each recording RBI singles in the first inning to give Mount Pulaski a quick 2-0 lead.

Aaron Volle had a single in the second inning and after stealing second, he scored later in the inning on an error, giving Mount Pulaski a 3-1 advantage.

Cooper and Tyler Cross singled as the third inning got underway and with a handful of walks in the inning, Mount Pulaski was crossing home plate one run after another.

And who doesn’t love to clear the bases with one swing? That’s exactly what hot-hitting junior Chance Payne did next for the Hilltoppers.

With the bases loaded and one out, Payne crushed the 2-1 pitch over the right field fence and Tucker Fitzpatrick, Landon Smith and Preston Cowan all scored on the grand slam.
