Lincoln
got a huge game from second baseman Michael Lucas on Thursday
afternoon and his three hits helped guide the Railsplitters to a 6-4
win over Peoria Notre Dame.
On the mound Lincoln got a solid outing from senior Wyatt Mammen,
who earned the win. Mammen worked six innings, allowing five hits
and two earned runs. He struck out five batters.
Peoria Notre Dame took a 2-0 lead in the top of the third inning but
Lincoln quickly came up with two runs in the bottom of the inning.
The inning started with Karson Komnick getting hit by a pitch. After
Michael Lucas singled, Jarrett Evers reached on an error and Colbie
Glenn, who had reached on a fielder’s choice, scored the first run
for Lincoln. Brenden Wurth followed up with a single to center to
score Lucas with the tying run.
In the top of the fourth inning, the Irish struck back with two more
runs to take over the lead again.
The bottom of the fourth inning began with Trey Schilling getting
plunked by a pitch. Schilling went on to advance to second on a wild
pitch and then he stole third. He scored on Griffin Shaw’s sacrifice
fly. The inning ended with the Irish recording a double play, but
Lincoln was down just 4-3 heading into the fifth inning.
Glenn hit a lead-off single to start the Railsplitters half of the
fifth inning. Lucas then hit a triple on an 0-2 count and Glenn
scored the tying run. Evers batted Lucas in two pitches later and
Lincoln was on top 5-4.

Lucas was responsible for driving in another run in the bottom of
the sixth inning. Shaw’s single was the first hit of the inning and
he advanced to second on Komnick’s sacrifice bunt. After Tate
Johnston walked, Glenn singled and the bases were loaded with just
one out for Lucas. Lucas hit a line drive to center that plated Shaw
with the sixth run of the game. An inning-ending double play allowed
the Irish to escape further damage but Lincoln was still able to
hold on for the 6-4 win.
Michael Lucas had a terrific day at the plate by going 3-for-4 with
two runs scored and two RBIs.
Colbie Glenn was 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
Jarrett Evers, Brenden Wurth, Drew Hayes, Griffin Shaw and Karson
Komnick each had one hit for Lincoln.
The Railsplitters improved to 15-7 on the season.
Lincoln will host Clinton today at 4:30 p.m.
