Railsplitters Track and Field competes at Girls CS8 Meet
Becca Heitzig sets new record in the 800m

Thursday, May 2, 2024 was a successful day for the Lincoln Railsplitters Track and Field team as the girls competed in the 2024 Central State Eight Meet at Memorial Stadium in Springfield.

Becca Heitzig blew the competition away in the 800m race. Heitzig set a new CS8 meet record with a first place time of 2:09.70. Freshman Ali Londrigan of Glenwood finished in second place with a time of 2:19.44. Lincoln freshman Natalie Geary finished in 12th place with a time of 2:45.28. That is a new PR for Geary.

Heitzig finished second in an event she is relatively new at: the 300m hurdles. The senior was second to Glenwood’s Natalie Alexander. Alexander’s time was 45.41. Heitzig’s time was 46.36. Both girls’ times were new PRs.

Bailey Tungate, a freshman, finished second in the high jump. Her jump of 4’ 11 was second to Emily Gross of University High. Gross jumped 5’ 4.

Other notable finishes:

100m

Ceana Adams finished in 13th place in the 100m. The sophomore’s time of 13.59 is a new PR.

Lexie Meredith finished in 20th place in the 100m. Her time was 15.40.

Katelyn Lehnen, a senior from Glenwood, won the 100m with a time of 11.77.

200m

Lehnen also won the 200m with a time of 24.04. That was a PR for the junior. Ceana Adams finished in 7th place with a time of 28.00.

Parker Maxey finished in 16th place in the 200m with a time of 29.29. That is a new PR for the sophomore.

400m

Mallory Short and Grace Schneider each finished in the top ten in the 400m.

Short came in 4th place with a time of 1:02.25. Short is a junior.

Schneider came in 8th place with a time of 1:04.70 and that is a PR for the sophomore.

1600m

Ryann Lile and Angeli Johnson each ran the 1600m.

Lile finished in 10th place with a time of 6:26.23. A new PR for the freshman.

Johnson ran the 1600m in a time of 7:37.21. Johnson is a freshman.

3200m

Angeli Johnson also ran the 3200m in a time of 16:04.24.

100m Hurdles

Alyssa Buffington finished in 14th place in the 100m hurdles with a time of 20.47. This is a PR for the senior.

Ava Cook ran the 100m hurdles but did not finish.

4x100m Relay

Lincoln’s 4x100m relay team finished in 9th place with a time of 53.90. This was a PR for Lexie Meredith, Parker Maxey, Alyssa Buffington and Ceana Adams.

4x200m Relay

Lincoln’s 4x200m relay team finished in 9th place with a time of 1:57.10. This was a PR for Lexie Meredith, Parker Maxey, Bailey Tungate and Ceana Adams.

4x400 Relay

Lincoln’s 4x400m relay team finished in fifth place with a time of 4:14.06. Mallory Short, Kyle Lund, Grace Schneider and Becca Heitzig run this relay.

4x800m Relay

Lincoln’s 4x800m relay team finished in fifth place with a time of 11:21.39. Mallory Short, Grace Schneider, Natalie Geary and Kyle Lund ran a PR here.

Shot Put

The Rawlins twins finished in the top ten in the shot put.

Avery Rawlins finished in 7th place with a new PR of 28’ 3.5.

Addison Rawlins finished in 9th place with a throw of 27’ 2.

Discus

Freshman Adalyn Varner finished 3rd in the discus with a throw of 91’ 1.

Addison Rawlins finished 7th in the discus with a throw of 74’ 11.

Long Jump

Parker Maxey and Mallory Short each competed in the long jump.

Maxey finished in 11th place with a jump of 14’ 3.

Short finished in 12th place with a jump of 13’ 11.
