Obituary
Gwen K. Long, 88, of Lincoln,
formerly of Atlanta, passed away at her home on
Wednesday, May 8, 2024.
Services for Gwen will be held on Monday, May 13,
2024, at the Quiram-Peasley Funeral Home in Atlanta.
Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.
on Monday at the funeral home, with Mr. Maurice
Stribling officiating her funeral at 11:00 a.m.
Burial will follow at the Atlanta Cemetery.
Gwendolyn Kay Kindred was born on March 27, 1936, in
Emden, the daughter of Lowell Leslie and Odessa
LaVerne Roadarmel Kindred. She was united in
marriage to Earl Thurman Long in Arthur, Illinois,
on May 28, 1958. He preceded her in death July 21,
2005.
Surviving Gwen are her children: JoEllen (Randy)
Grove, Roberta “Kay” Morton, Janet (Rick) Polley,
Debra Long, and Kevin Long; step-son Rex (Brenda)
Johnsen; one brother: Dale Kindred; one sister Mary
Swearingen; nine Grandchildren; and thirteen
great-grandchildren. |
She was preceded in death by her
parents, one sister Phyllis Swearingen, and two
brothers: Larry Kindred and Gary Kindred.
Gwen ran a daycare in her home in Atlanta for many
years.
She was a member of the Oasis Senior Center in
Lincoln, VFW Auxiliary, and bowling league
secretary. Her hobbies included word and jigsaw
puzzles.
Memorials may be made to the Oasis Senior Center in
Lincoln or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Quiram-Peasley Funeral Home is in charge of
arrangements.
