Heartland Community College Commencement set for May 17

Heartland Community College’s annual commencement will be held at Grossinger Motors Arena in Bloomington at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, May 17, 2024.

The full ceremony will include graduate recognitions and remarks from Heartland President Keith Cornille and student speakers Andria Merkle.

The Heartland Commencement ceremony will be held at Grossinger Motors Arena (101 S. Madison St, Bloomington, IL). There are no restrictions on the number of guests who can attend to celebrate with graduates.

Grossinger Motors Arena will be enforcing a "clear bag policy" for all attendees. It is recommended that guests are informed in advance of this policy and also bring a clear bag for their belongings. Further details regarding the clear bag policy can be found at www.heartland.edu/graduation.

Commencement Student Speaker

Andria Merkle, of Bloomington, recently completed her term as the 2023-2024 Student Trustee, where she served as a contributing member to the Heartland Board of Trustees.

During her time at Heartland, Merkle also served as President of the Political Science Club, as Treasurer of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and as a member of the Heartland Council on Family Relations where she worked to bring family friendly activities to campus, provide service to those in need and host events to raise awareness about important causes.

Merkle took on the role of Advocacy Day Chair for the Illinois Community College Board Student Advisory Committee (ICCB SAC), where she assisted in the planning of 2024's Student Advocacy Week for the Illinois Community College System.

Merkle was recently named to the 2024 ALL IN Student Voting Honor Roll by the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge organization.

Regional Campus Events

Hometown Hawks Graduation Ceremonies will also be held at Heartland's two regional campus locations. On Monday, April 13th from 11:30am-1:00pm at Heartland Community College Lincoln ( HCCL) 2201 Woodlawn Rd., Lincoln. On Wednesday, April 15th from 11:30am-1:00pm at Heartland Community College Pontiac (HCCP), 211 E Madison St., Ste. #2, Pontiac.

HCCL and HCCP Students may participate in the Commencement Ceremony in addition the Hometown Hawk celebrations.
